Terms and Conditions
Last updated: January 2026
These terms and conditions govern the provision of tutoring services by Claire Dennis, trading as You Can Do Maths ("I", "me", "my"). By booking or attending tutoring sessions, you ("the client", "you") agree to be bound by these terms.
1. Services
I provide private maths tutoring services for students of various ages and abilities, including preparation for SATS, Common Entrance, GCSE and Functional Skills qualifications. Sessions are typically one hour in duration unless otherwise agreed.
2. Booking and Scheduling
- Sessions can be booked through the online booking system or by contacting me directly.
- Regular weekly sessions are offered subject to availability.
- Ad-hoc sessions may be booked subject to availability.
- I reserve the right to reschedule sessions due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, in which case an alternative time will be offered where possible.
3. Cancellation Policy
- Cancellations made more than 48 hours before the scheduled session: No charge will be applied, and the session can be rescheduled if a suitable alternative time is available.
- Cancellations made within 48 hours of the scheduled session: The full session fee will be charged and no refund will be given. This is because the time has been reserved for you and may not be able to be offered to another student at short notice.
- No-shows: If a student fails to attend a session without notice, the full session fee will be charged.
- Repeated late cancellations or no-shows may result in termination of the tutoring arrangement.
4. Fees and Payment
- Current fees will be communicated to you at the time of booking and are subject to periodic review.
- Invoices are issued following each session and payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date.
- Payment can be made by bank transfer. Payment details will be provided on the invoice.
- Late payments may incur additional charges and may result in suspension of tutoring services until the account is settled.
- I reserve the right to adjust fees with reasonable notice (typically one month).
5. No Guarantee of Results
While I am committed to providing high-quality tutoring and will work diligently to help students improve their understanding and skills, I cannot guarantee specific outcomes, grades or examination results. Academic success depends on many factors including the student's effort, attendance, completion of recommended practice, school teaching, and individual circumstances.
Tutoring is intended to support and supplement a student's education, not to replace school-based learning or independent study.
6. Student and Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
- Students are expected to attend sessions on time and be prepared to learn.
- Students should complete any homework or practice tasks set between sessions to maximise progress.
- Parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring students are available for scheduled sessions.
- Please inform me of any relevant learning difficulties, special educational needs or circumstances that may affect the tutoring.
- Open communication about progress, concerns or changes in requirements is encouraged.
7. Location and Environment
- Sessions held at my home will take place in a suitable learning environment.
- For sessions at the client's home, a quiet, suitable space for learning should be provided.
- A parent or responsible adult should be present in the home (though not necessarily in the room) during sessions with students under 18.
8. Safeguarding
I am committed to the safety and wellbeing of all students. Any safeguarding concerns will be handled in accordance with appropriate guidelines and may be reported to relevant authorities if necessary.
9. Confidentiality
Information about students' academic progress, learning needs and personal circumstances will be treated as confidential and will not be shared with third parties without consent, except where required by law or for safeguarding purposes. Please see my Privacy Policy for full details on how I handle personal data.
10. Intellectual Property
Any materials I create or provide for tutoring sessions (worksheets, notes, resources) are for the personal educational use of the student only and may not be reproduced, distributed or used for commercial purposes without my permission.
11. Termination
- Either party may terminate the tutoring arrangement by providing reasonable notice (typically one week for regular sessions).
- I reserve the right to terminate the arrangement immediately in cases of non-payment, repeated cancellations, inappropriate behaviour, or other circumstances that make continuation of services untenable.
- Any outstanding fees remain payable upon termination.
12. Liability
I hold appropriate professional indemnity insurance. However, my liability is limited to the fees paid for services. I am not liable for any indirect or consequential losses arising from the tutoring services.
13. Changes to These Terms
I may update these terms and conditions from time to time. Clients will be notified of any significant changes. Continued use of my services after changes are communicated constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
14. Governing Law
These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
15. Contact
If you have any questions about these terms and conditions, please contact me.
